T.L.A.C.I.T. personally invites you to take part in the Towne Lake Arts Center’s 2009 touring Improvisational production!
TLAC’s goal is to travel to local elementary, intermediate, and high schools within Cherokee County providing and encouraging theatrical arts. This non-profit project plans to: provide children with a positive experience of interactive theatre through their own stories and ideas, express educational literature in creative ways, and present the knowledge of the theatrical arts in their community.
Last year T.L.A.C.I.T. encouraged over 2,300 children to express literature creatively, tell stories, read about adventures, travel to far off literary places, and bring their imaginations to life. Here’s what some of the Cherokee County school faculty had to say:
“The students really enjoyed hearing their stories.” - W.E.
“Several were really excited about trying out after [the performance]!” - H.S.E.
“What a great way to encourage writing & expression.” - W.E.
“The students’ response was extremely well received! Fantastic!” - S.H.S.
“The students were thoroughly engaged and entertained throughout the performance.” - H.S.E.
“WOW! Please come back!” - W.E.

What’s in a performance?
Each T.L.A.C.I.T. performance is live and interactive. The performances are geared toward a school assembly-type format and last approximately 45-50 minutes. Students who attend may get a chance to provide their own creativity for the show. Each performance will be structured according to the available troupe members.
A breakdown of a T.L.A.C.I.T. performance is as follows:
Introduction: Troupe members will introduce themselves to the audience by performing an impromptu song, dance, or scene.
Curriculum Script: NEW to T.L.A.C.I.T. this season are short scripted plays that will be performed by the troupe members. These plays are based on literature found in the Cherokee County school study curriculum. There will be TWO age-appropriate plays for each of the following grade groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Only one play can be chosen for each performance.
Each play runs about 10 - 15 minutes of the complete T.L.A.C.I.T. performance. The literature chosen for the 2009 T.L.A.C.I.T. tour are as follows:
K through 2nd grade:
Selections from Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes
The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Dr. Seuss
3rd through 5th grade:
“Rumpelstiltskin” by the Brothers Grimm
“The Frog Prince” by the Brothers Grimm
6th through 8th grade:
Selections from American Folktales
“The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe
9th through 12th grade:
Scenes from Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet
Scenes from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night
Descriptions of the stories and scenes can be found at the bottom of this page.
Structured Games: T.L.A.C.I.T. will then play 2-3 improvisational games that include audience members through suggestion and participation. These games are educational, interactive, and TONS of fun! All games are age-appropriate and monitored by the Troupe Leader.
Main Event: School Coordinators are given directions in advance that their attending classes can write paragraph or one-page stories that have to do with any popular topic (cartoons, sports, etc.). The Troupe Leader will choose 3-6 written stories that have a credible plot line and read each aloud to the audience. The troupe then performs each story for the audience with little to no preparation. Guidelines for the short stories can be found on our website.
Conclusion: Cast members will then conclude with an impromptu song, dance, or scene. They will also invite the students to any upcoming events at the Towne Lake Arts Center.
How do I book a performance?
T.L.A.C.I.T. will be touring this project
throughout May 2009.
Prices are as follows:
$200
50-minute performance
Audience Limit: 200
$350
Two back-to-back 50-minute performances
Audience Limit: 200/per performance
Invoices will be set to the school upon confirmation for a performance request. Payment is due when the school receives an invoice.
Reservations are being taken on a first-come first-serve basis and need to be made months in advance for the organization of the troupe’s performance schedule. We do ask that the audience members stay within a limited age/grade range--The troupe is trained to gear their performances to their audiences accordingly. Ideas given by a 6th grade student may not be applicable for a 1st grade student. This is not to say that there is a set limit of how many times they can perform at your school. Towne Lake Arts Center does, however, have the right to reschedule or refuse a reservation request.
T.L.A.C.I.T. wishes to bring the highest quality of performing arts to the students. In turn, we hope that you will work with us to benefit the theatrical community by allowing our troupe to travel to the schools.
Most children have never been on a stage or seen a play in their life—why not encourage confidence and creativity through the interactive arts now?
